Existing System Inspection and Troubleshooting

Project Description

A container terminal was constructed on the excavation spoils from a major tunnel excavation project. During tunnel construction in the early 1980s, a steel sheet pile cellular quay wall structure was built to retain the spoils. During terminal construction in the late 80’s, an impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) system was installed inside the quay wall cells, and a GCP system was installed on the waterside. VCS conducted a condition assessment of the existing system and made recommendations for maintenance or replacement of the system.

Project Scope

This terminal has four berths along a 4400 ft long wharf. The wharf is pile-supported and has a steel sheet pile cellular quay wall bulkhead located beneath the crane rails. VCS conducted an evaluation of the aging ICCP system protecting the bulkhead and made recommendations for maintenance or replacement.
